The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 4:26 p.m. this day, in Room C-120, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Marie-Claude Morin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dan Albas, Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joyce Bateman, Anne-Marie Day, Mylène Freeman, Roxanne James, Marie-Claude Morin, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Hon. Judy Sgro, Susan Truppe and Wai Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst. House of Commons: Christine Holke David, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: University of Western Ontario: Carol Stephenson, Dean, Richard Ivey School of Business. Campaign 2000: Laurel Rothman, National Coordinator.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of Judy Sgro, — That, in relation to the study of the role and challenges of women employed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Committee schedule additional hearings and invite current and/or former female employees of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who are prepared to share their personal stories and commentary in this regard, and that the hearings be scheduled as soon as the Committee’s work plan permits.

 

Susan Truppe moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Dan Albas, Stella Ambler, Joyce Bateman, Roxanne James, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Susan Truppe, Wai Young — 7; NAYS: Niki Ashton, Anne-Marie Day, Mylène Freeman, Judy Sgro — 4.

 

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 4:48 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:50 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 1, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of improving economic prospects for Canadian girls.
 

Carol Stephenson, by videoconference from London, Ontario and Laurel Rothman, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
