The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Lois Brown, Bob Dechert, Nina Grewal, Sadia Groguhé, Jean-François Larose, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, Jinny Jogindera Sims and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Robert Chisholm for Hélène Laverdière, Hon. Mark Eyking for Hon. Dominic LeBlanc and Mike Wallace for Peter Goldring.

 

Associate Members present: Peter Julian.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Jack Mintz, Palmer Chair, Public Policy, School of Policy Studies, University of Calgary. Center for Strategic and International Studies: Daniel Runde, Director, Project on Prosperity and Development. As an individual: Robert Schulz, Professor, Haskayne School of Business, University of Calgary.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, the Committee resumed its study on the role of the private sector in achieving Canada's international development interests.
 

Jack Mintz made a statement and answered questions.
