The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 8:47 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Lois Brown, Bob Dechert, Nina Grewal, Sadia Groguhé, Jean-François Larose, Hélène Laverdière, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, Jinny Jogindera Sims and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: David Sweet for Dave Van Kesteren and Mike Wallace for Peter Goldring.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Brandaid Project: Cameron Brohman, President and Co-Founder. Results Canada: Jean-François Tardif, Executive Director; Katy Kydd Wright, Director of Campaigns.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, the Committee resumed its study on the role of the private sector in achieving Canada's international development interests.
 

Hélène Laverdière moved, — That the Committee devote at least one public session to study Canada’s position at the United Nations Arms Control Treaty negotiations scheduled for February 2012; that such a meeting(s) take place before the winter adjournment in order that it precede these negotiations; that witnesses to be invited to appear at this meeting include representatives from the organization Control Arms Coalition as well as the Department of Foreign Affairs; and that the Committee’s findings be reported to the House of Commons before the winter adjournment.

 

It was agreed, — That the debate on the motion be adjourned to consideration of Committee business.

 

Cameron Brohman and Jean-François Tardif made statements and, with Katy Kydd Wright, answered questions.

 

At 10:23 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:27 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 10:33 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
