The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mark Warawa, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, François Choquette, Kirsty Duncan, Megan Anissa Leslie, Laurin Liu, James Lunney, Michelle Rempel, Robert Sopuck, Lawrence Toet and Mark Warawa.

 

Acting Members present: Bob Dechert for Stephen Woodworth and Blake Richards for Stephen Woodworth.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Robert B. Gibson, Professor, Environment and Resource Studies, University of Waterloo; John Sinclair, Professor, Natural Resources Institute, University of Manitoba. Saskatchewan Mining Association: Pamela Schwann, Executive Director; R. Liam Mooney, Member, Vice-President, Safety, Health, Environment and Quality, Regulatory Relations, Cameco Corporation; Tammy Van Lambalgen, Member, Vice-President, Regulatory Affairs and Legal Counsel, AREVA Resources Canada Inc.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, October 19, 2011, the Committee resumed its statutory review of the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act.
 

Robert B. Gibson, John Sinclair and Pamela Schwann, by videoconference from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, made statements.

 

At 11:32 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:24 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Pamela Schwann, R. Liam Mooney, Tammy Van Lambalgen, by videoconference from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Robert B. Gibson and John Sinclair answered questions.

 

At 1:03 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
