The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mark Warawa, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, François Choquette, Kirsty Duncan, Megan Anissa Leslie, James Lunney, François Pilon, Anne Minh-Thu Quach, Michelle Rempel, Robert Sopuck, Lawrence Toet, Mark Warawa and Stephen Woodworth.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Wildlife Federation: Rick Bates, Executive Director; David Browne, Director of Conservation. Nature Canada: Ian Davidson, Executive Director. Nature Conservancy Canada: John Lounds, President and Chief Executive Officer; Michael Bradstreet, Vice-President, Conservation; Nathalie Zinger, Regional Vice-President, Québec.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, the Committee resumed its study to provide recommendations regarding the development of a national conservation plan.
 

Rick Bates, Ian Davidson and John Lounds made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:58 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:04 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee invite the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development for one hour, no later than Tuesday, May 8, 2012, regarding the Spring 2012 Report of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development.

 

At 5:43 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
