The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Hon. Wayne Easter, Russ Hiebert, Ed Holder, Gerald Keddy, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Marc-André Morin, Annick Papillon, Jasbir Sandhu, Bev Shipley and Devinder Shory.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Jean-Michel Laurin, Vice-President, Global Business Policy. Forest Products Association of Canada: David L. Lindsay, President and Chief Executive Officer; Isabelle Des Chênes, Vice-President, Market Relations and Communications. Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada: Paul Davidson, President and Chief Executive Officer. Export Development Canada: Todd Winterhalt, Vice-President, International Business Development; Mark Bolger, Regional Manager, Asia.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) with India.
 

David L. Lindsay and Jean-Michel Laurin made statements and, with Isabelle Des Chênes, answered questions.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Don Davies moved, — That, notwithstanding any previous order adopted by the Committee, the Standing Committee on International Trade invite the Minister of International Trade to provide a comprehensive briefing on the negotiations towards the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement with the European Union before Friday, December 14, 2012.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Gerald Keddy moved, — That the debate be now adjourned.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 4.

 

Paul Davidson and Todd Winterhalt made statements and, with Mark Bolger, answered questions.

 

At 5:20 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:22 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee continue its study of a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) with India until its completion for all meetings after January 28, 2013 and that the Chair be authorized to modify this schedule, if necessary, at his discretion.

 

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
