The Standing Committee on International Trade met in camera at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Merrifield, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ron Cannan, Hon. Wayne Easter, Russ Hiebert, Ed Holder, Gerald Keddy, Brian Masse, Hon. Rob Merrifield, Ève Péclet, Mathieu Ravignat, Bev Shipley and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Denis Blanchette for Raymond Côté.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Steve Verheul, Chief Trade Negotiator, Canada-European Union; Ana Renart, Deputy Chief Trade Negotiator, Canada-European Union; Leigh Sarty, Director, Institutions, Policy and Operations Division, Europe and Eurasia Bureau.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee travel to Brussels, Belgium, and Paris, France, from Saturday, December 3 to Friday, December 9, 2011, in relation to its study on the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the European Union.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee defray the hospitality expenses related to working meals to be held during its travel to Brussels, Belgium, and Paris, France, from Saturday, December 3 to December 9, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee be authorized to purchase up to $400 in gifts to be presented to foreign hosts during its travel to Brussels, Belgium, and Paris, France, from Saturday, December 3 to December 9, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the European Union, the proposed supplementary travel budget in the amount of $24,300, for the Committee’s travel to Brussels, Belgium and Paris, France in fall 2011, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee.

 

At 9:15 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:17 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the European Union.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:11 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
