Monday, March 4, 2013

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, the Hon. Rob Moore, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Ray Boughen, Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Gordon Brown, Paul Calandra, Andrew Cash, Matthew Dubé, Hon. Rob Moore, Pierre Nantel, Blake Richards, Scott Simms and Terence Young.

Acting Members present: Chungsen Leung for Jim Hillyer.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Dewing, Analyst ; Marion Ménard, Analyst.

Witnesses: Institut national du sport du Québec: Marc Gélinas, Chief Executive Officer. Coaching Association of Canada: John Bales, Chief Executive Officer. Oakville Gymnastics Club: Wayne Hussey, Chief Executive Officer. Beaconsfield Bluefins Swim Club: Matt Showers, Head Coach for ten years and under, Lac St. Louis Swimming Association; Tim Comerford, Competitive Swim Coach, Lac St. Louis Region Swimming Association.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, the Committee resumed its study on the status of amateur coaching in Canada.

John Bales, Wayne Hussey and Marc Gélinas, made statements and answered questions.

At 4:25 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:32 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Matt Showers and Tim Comerford made statements and answered questions.

At 5:20 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:22 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the meeting on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 be cancelled.

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 81(4) and 81(5), the Committee invite the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages and department officials to appear before the Committee on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 for one (1) hour to discuss the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2012-13 and the Main Estimates 2013-14.

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
