The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dennis Bevington, Lois Brown, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Sukh Dhaliwal, Roger Gaudet, Michel Guimond, Brian Jean, Colin Mayes, Hon. John McCallum, Brad Trost, Merv Tweed and Jeff Watson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst; Ardiana Hallaci, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada: Jennifer Stoddart, Privacy Commissioner; Carman Baggaley, Strategic Policy Advisor; Daniel Caron, Legal Counsel, Legal Services, Policy and Parliamentary Affairs Branch.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of Michel Guimond, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee study the consequences of noise caused by airport operations in urban areas as well as all other problematics linked to the quality of life of the population, and that it report its observations and recommendations, including recommendations related to an appropriate regulatory response, to the House.

 

On motion of Brian Jean, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by deleting the words “as well as all other problematics”.

 

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee study the consequences of noise caused by airport operations in urban areas linked to the quality of life of the population, and that it report its observations and recommendations, including recommendations related to an appropriate regulatory response, to the House.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 7; NAYS: 2.

 

At 11:22 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:23 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, October 26, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-42, An Act to amend the Aeronautics Act.
 

Jennifer Stoddart made a statement and, with Carman Baggaley and Daniel Caron, answered questions.

 

At 12:51 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
