The Standing Committee on Natural Resources met in a televised session at 3:29 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Leon Benoit, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, David Anderson, Scott Andrews, Leon Benoit, Paule Brunelle, Hon. Denis Coderre, Nathan Cullen, Roger Pomerleau, Devinder Shory and Alan Tonks.

 

Acting Members present: Patricia Davidson for Randy Hoback, Rick Dykstra for Richard M. Harris and Ben Lobb for Devinder Shory.

 

Associate Members present: Cheryl Gallant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Luc Bourdages, Analyst; Mohamed Zakzouk, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission: Michael M. Binder, President and Chief Executive Officer; Ramzi Jammal, Executive Vice-President and Chief Regulatory Operations Officer; Patsy Thompson, Director General, Directorate of Environmental and Radiation Protection and Assessment. Bruce Power: Duncan Hawthorne, President and Chief Executive Officer; Norm Sawyer, Chief Nuclear Officer, Bruce A; Patrick Lamarre, President, SNC-Lavalin Nuclear Inc.; Frank Saunders, Vice-President, Nuclear Oversight and Regulatory Affairs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 30, 2010, the Committee commenced its study of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission's decision regarding the transport of decommissioned steam generators to Sweden.
 

Michael M. Binder made a statement and, with Patsy Thompson and Ramzi Jammal, answered questions.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Duncan Hawthorne made a statement and, with Patrick Lamarre, answered questions.

 

At 5:26 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
