The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Shawn Murphy, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David Christopherson, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Earl Dreeshen, Meili Faille, Daryl Kramp, Derek Lee, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Andrew Saxton, Bev Shipley and Terence Young.

Acting Members present: Ruby Dhalla for Derek Lee and Pascal-Pierre Paillé for Josée Beaudin.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Maria Edwards, Analyst ; Alex Smith, Analyst.

Witnesses: Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Sheila Fraser, Auditor General of Canada; Jerome Berthelette, Assistant Auditor General; Hugh McRoberts, Assistant Auditor General. Department of National Defence: Robert Fonberg, Deputy Minister; Dan Ross, Assistant Deputy Minister (Materiel); LGen Andrew Leslie, Chief of Land Staff. Department of Public Works and Government Services: François Guimont, Deputy Minister; Terry Williston, Executive Director, Military Procurement, Land, Aerospace and Marine Systems and Major Projects Sector. Treasury Board Secretariat: John Ossowski, Assistant Secretary, International Affairs, Security and Justice.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the Committee commenced consideration of Chapter 5, "Acquiring Military Vehicles for Use in Afghanistan" of the Fall 2009 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

Sheila Fraser, Robert Fonberg and François Guimont made statements and, with Jerome Berthelette, Dan Ross, LGen Andrew Leslie and John Ossowsky, answered questions.

At 10:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
