The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met in a televised session at 3:28 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, the Hon. Joseph Volpe, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Navdeep Bains, David Christopherson, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Earl Dreeshen, Meili Faille, Daryl Kramp, Andrew Saxton, Bev Shipley, Hon. Joseph Volpe and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Louis Plamondon for Richard Nadeau.

 

Associate Members present: Paul Dewar.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sébastien T. Defoy, Analyst; Alex Smith, Analyst. House of Commons: Miriam Burke, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Christiane Ouimet, former Commissioner, Office of the Public Sector Integrity Commissioner of Canada.

 

Participants present: Heenan Blaikie LLP: Ivan G. Whitehall, Lawyer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(g), and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, December 9, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of the Report of the Auditor General of Canada on the Public Sector Integrity Commissioner of Canada.
 

It was agreed, — That Christiane Ouimet be permitted to be assisted by counsel.

 

On motion of Louis Plamondon, it was agreed, — That the evidence to be given by Christiane Ouimet in relation to the study “Report of the Auditor General of Canada - The Public Sector Integrity Commissioner of Canada” be taken under oath or by solemn affirmation.

 

Accordingly, Christiane Ouimet was called, duly sworn in and examined.

 

Christiane Ouimet made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:09 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit after division bells begin to ring.

 

David Christopherson moved, — That, in relation to the study of the Report of the Auditor General of Canada on the Public Sector Integrity Commissioner of Canada, the Auditor General of Canada and Christiane Ouimet, the former Integrity Commissioner of Canada, be invited to appear at the next available meeting.

Debate arose thereon.

 

At 5:26 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
