The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joyce Murray, Joy Smith and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

Acting Members present: David Tilson for Tim Uppal.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marie Chia, Analyst ; Karin Phillips, Analyst.

Witnesses: Canadian Resident Matching Service: Jim Boone, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer. Medical Council of Canada: Ian Bowmer, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. Alberta International Medical Graduates Association: Chander Hariramani, Treasurer, Alberta; Ali Varastehpour, Vice-President, Edmonton. Federation of Medical Regulatory Authorities of Canada: Fleur-Ange Lefebvre, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. J.A. Hildes Northern Medical Unit: Bruce Martin, Doctor, Faculty of Medicine, University of Manitoba.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, March 11, 2010, the Committee resumed its study on Health Human Resources.

Ali Varastehpour, Jim Boone, Fleur-Ange Lefebvre, Bruce Martin and Ian Bowmer made statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
