The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 11:03 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Patricia Davidson, Ruby Dhalla, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Megan Anissa Leslie, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joy Smith and Tim Uppal.

 

Acting Members present: Scott Armstrong for Colin Carrie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst; Karin Phillips, Analyst; Danielle Lussier, Analyst. House of Commons: Isabelle Dumas, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Françoise Baylis, Professor; Irene Ryll; Barbara Slater. Assisted Human Reproduction Canada: John Hamm, Chair; Elinor Wilson, President; Suzanne Scorsone, Board Member; Theresa Kennedy, Board Member.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, June 8, 2010, the Committee commenced its administrative review of Assisted Human Reproduction Canada.
 

Barbara Slater, Françoise Baylis and Irene Ryll made statements and answered questions.

 

Megan Anissa Leslie moved, — That the Committee extend the time of Panel I and reschedule Panel II for another day.

Debate arose thereon.

 

By unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.

 

Megan Anissa Leslie moved, — That Panel I be extended by 30 minutes.

 

Colin Carrie moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “30 minutes” the following: “and that Panel II be also extended by 30 minutes”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Colin Carrie and it was agreed to.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That Panel I be extended by 30 minutes and that Panel II be also extended by 30 minutes.

 

At 12:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

John Hamm and Elinor Wilson made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 1:46 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
