The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in a televised teleconference session at 8:49 a.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington, the Vice-Chair, Cathy McLeod, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Lois Brown, Dona Cadman, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Hon. Hedy Fry, Nina Grewal, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville and Michelle Simson.

 

Acting Members present: Todd Norman Russell for Michelle Simson.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Feminist Alliance for International Action: Kate McInturff, Executive Director. Canadian Labour Congress: Barbara Byers, Executive Vice-President; Vicky Smallman, National Director, National Headquarters. Public Service Alliance of Canada: Andrée Côté, Women's and Human Rights Officer, Membership Programs Branch; Helen Berry, Classification and Equal Pay Specialist. Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, May 5, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-471, An Act respecting the implementation of the recommendations of the Pay Equity Task Force and amending another Act in consequence.
 

At 8:55 a.m., Hedy Fry took the Chair.

 

Kate McInturff, Barbara Byers and Andrée Côté made statements and, with Vicky Smallman and Helen Berry, answered questions.

 

At 9:46 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:51 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, March 8, 2010, the Committee resumed its study of violence against Aboriginal women.
 

Carmen Hancock, by teleconference from Forteau, Newfoundland and Labrador, Germaine Benuen and Joanne McGee, by teleconference from Sheshatshiu, Newfoundland and Labrador, Michelle Kinney, by teleconference from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador and Kathleen Benuen, by teleconference from Natuashish, Newfoundland and Labrador, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:44 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
