The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 3:34 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Lois Brown, Johanne Deschamps, Paul Dewar, Jean Dorion, Peter Goldring, James Lunney, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Glen Douglas Pearson, Hon. Bob Rae and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Red Cross: Susan Johnson, Director General, International Operations; Richard Clair, Country Director, Haiti; Pam Aung Thin, National Director, Public Affairs and Government Relations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, December 2, 2010, the Committee commenced its study of Canadian and international disaster response and the situation in Haiti.
 

Susan Johnson and Richard Clair made statements and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That René Magloire, Special Advisor to the President of Haiti, be invited to appear as a witness, from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the meeting scheduled on Monday, March 7, 2011, as part of the study of Canadian and international disaster response and the situation in Haiti.

 

It was agreed, — That H.E. Elsadig Almagly, chargé d’affaires, Embassy of the Republic of the Sudan, be invited to appear before the Committee, in order to discuss the current situation in Sudan in light of the final result of the referendum held in January 2011.

 

At 5:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
