The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met by videoconference at 11:05 a.m. this day, in Room 752, 131 Queen St., the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Dean Allison, Johanne Deschamps, Paul Dewar, Peter Goldring, James Lunney, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry, Hon. Bob Rae and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Paule Brunelle for Francine Lalonde and Hon. John McKay for Glen Douglas Pearson.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Andrew Lauzon, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Steven Schnoor; Richard Steiner, Professor and Conservation Specialist, International Union for the Conservation of Nature. Canadian Foundation for the Americas (FOCAL): Carlo Dade, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, March 3, 2010, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-300, An Act respecting Corporate Accountability for the Activities of Mining, Oil or Gas in Developing Countries.
 

Steven Schnoor and Richard Steiner, by videoconference from Anchorage, Alaska, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:10 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Carlo Dade made a statement and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 1:08 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
