The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met in camera at 12:05 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Jim Abbott, Dean Allison, Johanne Deschamps, Paul Dewar, Peter Goldring, Francine Lalonde, James Lunney, Bernard Patry, Glen Douglas Pearson and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. John McKay for Hon. Bob Rae and Andrew Saxton for Deepak Obhrai.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Andrew Lauzon, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst; Allison Goody, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Monday, April 26, 2010, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with Gareth Evans, Co-Chair of the International Commission on Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with representatives from the Solidarity Committee for Ethiopian Political Prisoners Canada.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Thursday, April 29, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with His Excellency Alain Bédouma Yoda, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation of Burkina Faso; and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., to meet with representatives from Agir Ensemble pour la Paix au Congo.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with government officials to discuss the upcoming G8 Summit; and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., to meet with Francis Deng, United Nations Special Advisor to the Secretary-General on the Prevention of Genocide.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Thursday, May 6, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to meet with representatives from non-governmental organizations to discuss the upcoming G8 Summit.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with Christoph Benn, senior spokesperson for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; and from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., in order to proceed with the study of Bill C-300, An Act respecting Corporate Accountability for the Activities of Mining, Oil or Gas in Developing Countries.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Thursday, May 13, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to resume consideration of Bill C-300, An Act respecting Corporate Accountability for the Activities of Mining, Oil or Gas in Developing Countries.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee meet on Tuesday, May 25 and Thursday, May 27, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., to consider a draft report on the situation at Rights & Democracy (International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development).

 

At 12:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
