The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 8:54 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Ron Cannan, John Cannis, Claude Guimond, Martha Hall Findlay, Ed Holder, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, Jean-Yves Laforest, Lee Richardson, Mario Silva and Brad Trost.

 

Acting Members present: Joe Preston for Dean Allison and Scott Simms for Mario Silva.

 

Associate Members present: Scott Simms.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Simon Lapointe, Analyst; Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Fraser Institute: Fred McMahon, Vice President Research, International. Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives: Scott Sinclair, Senior Research Fellow. Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Jean-Michel Laurin, Vice-President, Global Business Policy. Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada: David Coles, President. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of the AbitibiBowater settlement.
 

Scott Sinclair and Fred McMahon made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:52 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:00 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

David Coles, Michael G. Woods and Jean-Michel Laurin made statements and, with Alexandra Logvin, answered questions.

 

At 10:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
