Meeting No. 26

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

The Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security met in camera at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Garry Breitkreuz, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Don Davies, Mark Holland, Andrew Kania, Dave MacKenzie, Serge Ménard, Rick Norlock, Robert Oliphant, Brent Rathgeber and Blake Richards.

Acting Members present: Roger Gaudet for Maria Mourani.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst ; Tanya Dupuis, Analyst.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and section 13 of the DNA Identification Act, the Committee resumed a statutory review of the Act.

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Committee commence its consideration of a draft report on the review of the findings and recommendations arising from the Internal Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in relation to Abdullah Almalki, Ahmad Abou-Elmaati and Muayyed Nureddin (Iacobucci Inquiry) and the report from the Commission of Inquiry into the Actions of Canadian Officials in Relation to Maher Arar (Arar Inquiry) Inquiries on Thursday, June 11, 2009 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and continue on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

It was agreed, — That the Committee consider Bill C-34, An Act to amend the Criminal Code and other Acts on Thursday, June 18, 2009.

At 10:46 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
