The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Hon. Maxime Bernier, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Maxime Bernier, Ray Boughen, Peter Braid, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Cheryl Gallant, Jack Harris, Laurie Hawn, Pascal-Pierre Paillé, LaVar Payne and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: John Rafferty for Jack Harris.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Réserve 2000 Québec: Frédéric Mariage, MGen (Retired), President; Marcel Belleau, Col (Retired), Vice-President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, the Committee commenced its study of recruitment and retention strategy.
 

MGen (Retired) Frédéric Mariage made a statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.

 

At 10:27 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:32 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $128,516, for the Committee's travel, in relation to its study on Arctic sovereignty, to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Anchorage, Alaska, and Winnipeg, Manitoba, in February-March 2010, be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That members be required to use a travel point to participate in the Committee's proposed travel to Yellowknife, Anchorage and Winnipeg as part of its study on Arctic sovereignty.

 

At 10:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
