The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Hon. Maxime Bernier, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Maxime Bernier, Ray Boughen, Peter Braid, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Cheryl Gallant, Jack Harris, Laurie Hawn, Hon. Anita Neville, Pascal-Pierre Paillé, LaVar Payne and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Megan Anissa Leslie for Jack Harris.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst; Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst; Martin Auger, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: MGen W. Semianiw, Chief of Military Personnel; Daniel MacKeigan, Commander, Canadian Forces Recruiting Group; Karol Wenek, Director General, Military Personnel.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, the Committee commenced its study of Recruitment and retention strategy.
 

MGen Semianiw made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

Claude Bachand moved, — That, in relation to its study on recruitment and retention strategy, the Standing Committee on National Defence invite representatives of Réserve 2000 Québec to appear before the Committee.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

At 10:43 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
