The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Hon. Maxime Bernier, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Maxime Bernier, Ray Boughen, Peter Braid, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Cheryl Gallant, Jack Harris, Pascal-Pierre Paillé and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Rob Moore for Laurie Hawn, Marcel Proulx for Hon. Anita Neville and Brian Storseth for LaVar Payne.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Privy Council Office: Ward P.D. Elcock, Coordinator for 2010 Olympic and G8 Security. Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Pat McDonell, Assistant Commissioner. Department of National Defence: VAdm Bruce Donaldson, Commander, Canada Command.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 23, 2009, the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the security preparations for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:28 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

 

At 10:34, the Committee resumed sitting in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the draft budget which is being prepared for the Committee's proposed travel to Yellowknife, Anchorage and Winnipeg as part of its study on Arctic Sovereignty contain sufficient funds for all 12 members of the Committee to travel.

 

It was agreed, — That members be required to use a travel point to participate in the Committee's proposed travel to Yellowknife, Anchorage and Winnipeg as part of its study on Artic Sovereignty.

 

At 11:03 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
