The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Hon. Maxime Bernier, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Maxime Bernier, Steven Blaney, Ray Boughen, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn, Pascal-Pierre Paillé, LaVar Payne and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Hon. Anita Neville, Martha Hall Findlay for Hon. Denis Coderre and Megan Leslie for Jack Harris.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolfgang Koerner, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: University of Calgary: Robert Huebert, Associate Director, Centre for Military and Strategic Studies.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 23, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on Arctic sovereignty.
 

Robert Huebert made a statement and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Megan Anissa Leslie moved, — That notwithstanding the Order adopted by the Committee on Monday, June 8, 2009, the deadline for the submission of dissident or supplementary opinions related to the Committee’s report on health care services offered to Canadian Forces personnel be extended until Friday, June 12, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. (Eastern daylight time).

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, in conjunction with the Analysts, prepare a draft press release related to the tabling of the Committee’s report on health care services offered to Canadian Forces personnel and submit it to the Committee for review at its next meeting.

 

At 4:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
