The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Hon. Maxime Bernier, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Hon. Maxime Bernier, Steven Blaney, Ray Boughen, Hon. Denis Coderre, Cheryl Gallant, Jack Harris, Laurie Hawn, Pascal-Pierre Paillé, LaVar Payne and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Larry Bagnell for Hon. Anita Neville.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd.: Mag Iskander, President, Information Systems Group. University of Ottawa: Donat Pharand, Emeritus Professor.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

By unanimous consent, Denis Coderre moved, — That the Auditor General be invited to appear before the Standing Committee on National Defence to discuss Chapter 5 (Financial Management and Control—National Defence) of the 2009 Spring Report of the Auditor General of Canada.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, February 23, 2009, the Committee resumed its study on Arctic sovereignty.
 

Mag Iskander and Donat Pharand made statements and answered questions

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That unless the Auditor General appears on June 1 or June 3, 2009, the committee will hear witnesses in relation to its study on Arctic Sovereignty.

 

At 5:28 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
