The Standing Committee on Health met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Colin Carrie, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joyce Murray, Joy Smith and Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

Acting Members present: Bob Dechert for Patrick Brown, Bernard Patry for Hon. Carolyn Bennett and Blake Richards for Tim Uppal.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Alliance of Community Health Centre Associations: Jack McCarthy, Chairperson. College of Family Physicians of Canada: John Maxted, Associate Executive Director, Health and Public Policy. Local Health Integration Network: Gary Switzer, Chief Executive Officer, Erie St.Clair. Department of Health: Paul Gully, Senior Medical Advisor. Public Health Agency of Canada: David Butler-Jones, Chief Public Health Officer; Elaine Chatigny, Director General, Communications.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 26, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of health human resources.
 

Jack McCarthy, John Maxted and Gary Switzer made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of Carolyn Bennett, — That the Committee hold its H1N1 briefings each week on Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and if deemed necessary by the Committee, extra time be allotted to hear from additional witnesses on H1N1 on the following Wednesday.

 

By unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of H1N1 preparedness and response.
 

Paul Gully, David Butler-Jones and Elaine Chatigny made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
