The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in camera at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Johanne Deschamps, Hon. Hedy Fry, Candice Hoeppner, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Shelly Glover for Sylvie Boucher and Judy Wasylycia-Leis for Irene Mathyssen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Shahrzad Mobasher Fard, Analyst; Clara Morgan, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Statistics Canada: Geoff Bowlby, Director, Labour Statistics Division; Sylvie Michaud, Director General, Labour and Household Surveys Branch.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women request from the Department of Finance the gender based analysis of Budget 2009 and that the response from the Department of Finance be made available to all Committee Members.

 

At 12:12 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:20 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the consequences and effects the current Employment Insurance (EI) programs have on Women in Canada.
 

Sylvie Michaud and Geoff Bowlby made statements and answered questions.

 

At 1:07 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
