The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met by videoconference at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the acting chair, Dave Van Kesteren, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Nicole Demers, Luc Desnoyers, Cathy McLeod, Dave Van Kesteren, Alice Wong and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Niki Ashton for Irene Mathyssen, Paul Calandra for Candice Hoeppner and Hon. John McCallum for Hon. Anita Neville.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Cool, Analyst; Jean-François Nadeau, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives: Monica Townson, Consultant and Research Associate. Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN): Claudette Carbonneau, President; Nathalie Joncas, Actuary. Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec: Danielle Casara, Vice-President; Marie-Josée Naud, Union Advisor, Education Department.

 

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of an acting Chair.

 

It was agreed, — That Dave Van Kesteren be elected acting Chair for this meeting.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, October 1, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of women and pension security.
 

Claudette Carbonneau, Danielle Casara and Monica Townson made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the Committee's decision to finish hearing from witnesses on Thursday, November 26, 2009 concerning the study on women and pension security, that representatives from the Public Service Alliance of Canada be invited to appear on Tuesday, December 1, 2009.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
