The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met in camera at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Hedy Fry, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Sylvie Boucher, Patricia Davidson, Nicole Demers, Johanne Deschamps, Hon. Hedy Fry, Candice Hoeppner, Irene Mathyssen, Cathy McLeod, Hon. Anita Neville, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon and Lise Zarac.

 

Acting Members present: Niki Ashton for Irene Mathyssen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Clara Morgan, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the House of Commons Standing Committee on the Status of Women readopt the recommendations of the unanimous report: Towards Gender Responsive Budgeting: Rising to the Challenge of Achieving Gender Equality from the 39th Parliament and request a Government response.

 

It was agreed, — That, after Bill C-10 is passed in the House, the Standing Committee of the Status of Women retable the report entitled “Moving Forward on the Pay Equity Task Force Recommendations” of June 2005 and request a government response to the said report within 45 days.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee of the Status of Women undertake a study on the consequences and effects the current Employment Insurance (EI) programs have on Women in Canada and that this study examine but be not limited to the following in relation to current EI programs:

- Eligibility criteria

- Waiting period

- Supports

- Parental benefits

- Benefits for the self employed

- Support to older workers

- Regional disparities including aboriginal and immigrant women

- Nature of employment.

 

At 12:06 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:18 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Committee proceeded to the planning of future business

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
