The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, James Bezan, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: James Bezan, Bernard Bigras, Peter Braid, Blaine Calkins, David J. McGuinty, Christian Ouellet, Francis Scarpaleggia, Justin Trudeau, Mark Warawa, Jeff Watson and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Bruce Hyer for Linda Duncan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst; Tim Williams, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Cattlemen's Association: Lynn Grant, Chairman, Environment Committee; Peggy Strankman, Manager, Environmental Affairs. Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers: John Masterson, Manager, Federal Regulatory Affairs; Peter Miller, Legal Counsel, Imperial Oil Resources; Journey Paulus, Regulatory and Environmental Legal Counsel, EnCana Corporation. Canadian Electricity Association: Eli Turk, Vice-President, Government Relations; Gary Birch, Senior Technical Advisor, B.C. Hydro. Canadian Hydropower Association: Pierre Lundahl, Environmental Consultant, President, Lundahl Environment Inc.; Ed Wojczynski, Vice-Chair, Chair of the Species at Risk Act Working Group.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, February 24, 2009 and Section 129 of the Species at Risk Act, the Committee resumed the statutory review of the Act.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 11:03 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
