The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in camera at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Paul Calandra, Olivia Chow, Rick Dykstra, Nina Grewal, Alexandra Mendes, Pascal-Pierre Paillé, Devinder Shory, Thierry St-Cyr, David Tilson and Alice Wong.

 

Acting Members present: Don Davies for Olivia Chow, Ed Fast for Rick Dykstra, Marc Garneau for Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Hon. Marlene Jennings for Hon. Jim Karygiannis and Borys Wrzesnewskyj for Hon. Jim Karygiannis.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Elgersma, Analyst; Daniel Thompson, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 12, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of undocumented workers and temporary foreign workers.
 

It was agreed, — That the second report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in:

In accordance with its mandate pursuant to Order made February 3, 2009, your Subcommittee has considered the question of the future business of the Committee.

The Subcommittee recommends that the Committee undertake the following work after completing the report on undocumented workers and temporary foreign workers:

Beginning March 31, an examination of the funding of settlement services, with two meetings for the hearing of evidence and one for preparing a report; and

On April 28, a study of recent Order in Council appointments.

The Subcommittee further recommends that Committee members discuss among themselves the idea of undertaking a global study of Canadian immigration issues. Discussions should be completed so that the Subcommittee will be able to take into account parties’ views when it meets on April 23.

 

The Committee resumed consideration of a draft report.

 

At 10:10 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:18 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That, notwithstanding the second report of the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure adopted earlier this day, consideration of the draft report on undocumented workers and temporary foreign workers be put off to a date after April 28.

 

At 10:53 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
