The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 9:01 a.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, David Sweet, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Guy André, Roger Gaudet, Greg Kerr, Ben Lobb, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman, Robert Oliphant, Hon. Judy Sgro and David Sweet.

 

Acting Members present: Kirsty Duncan for Scott Andrews and LaVar Payne for Brian Storseth.

 

Appearing: Laurie Hawn, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence.

 

Witnesses: House of Commons: Peter Stoffer, Sackville—Eastern Shore. Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions Canada: Mario Mercier, Actuary, Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, Office of the Chief Actuary, Public Sector Insurance and Pension Programs. Department of National Defence: Lynne McKenna-Fleming, Acting Director General, Compensation and Benefits.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, May 13, 2009, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-201, An Act to amend the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Superannuation Act (deletion of deduction from annuity).
 

Peter Stoffer made statements and answered questions.

 

Laurie Hawn made a statement and, with Mario Mercier and Lynne McKenna-Fleming, answered questions.

 

At 10:52 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:54 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of $27,800, for the Committee's Reviews of the New Veterans Charter, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed operational budget in the amount of $ 17,400, for the examination of Bill C-201, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 2,504, for the Committee’s travel to Ste Ann's hospital, be adopted.

 

At 10:58 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
