The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 9:06 a.m. this day, in Room 213, Wellington Building, the Chair, Diane Marleau, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Charlie Angus, Diane Bourgeois, Patrick Brown, Meili Faille, Raymonde Folco, Mark Holland, Daryl Kramp, Hon. Diane Marleau, James Moore, Mario Silva and Chris Warkentin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Philippe Le Goff, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Professional Institute of the Public Service of Canada: Michèle Demers, President; Don Burns, Vice-President; Denise Doherty-Delorme, Section Head of Research. Heritage Canada Foundation: Natalie Bull, Executive Director.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Diane Bourgeois moved, — That Dimitri Soudas, Léo Housakos, Frédéric Loiselle, Michael Rosenberg and John Lemieux be summoned to appear in Ottawa and give evidence before the Committee on its study of Political Interference by the Prime Minister’s Office, no later than Thursday, February 28, 2008, at 9:00 a.m. at a location to be determined by the Chair and the Clerk of the Committee.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Raymonde Folco moved, — That the motion be amended by replacing all the words after “that” with the words “the Chair send a letter inviting Dimitri Soudas, Léo Housakos, Michael M. Fortier, Frédéric Loiselle, Michael Rosenberg and John Lemieux to appear before the Committee next February 28”.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Raymonde Folco and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 6.

Raymonde Folco moved, — That, on February 28, the Committee meet to hear Dimitri Soudas, Léo Housakos, Michael M. Fortier, Frédéric Loiselle, Michael Rosenberg and John Lemieux.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 11; NAYS: 0.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on November 26, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the Federal Government's Real Estate Plan.
 

Michèle Demers made a statement and, with Don Burns and Denise Doherty-Delorme, answered questions.

 

At 10:19 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:21 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Natalie Bull made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 10:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
