The Standing Committee on National Defence met in camera at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Rick Casson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Dawn Black, Steven Blaney, Robert Bouchard, Rick Casson, Hon. Denis Coderre, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn, James Lunney, Hon. Joe McGuire and Anthony Rota.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Cox, Analyst; Wolf Koerner, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Chair submit for approval the Committee's budget in the amount of $249,461 to travel to Afghanistan and Belgium at the next meeting of the Liaison Committee or the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets.

 

At 4:47 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:50 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion of Dawn Black, which was postponed at the meeting of February 14, 2008, and which read as follows:

That, as part of the Committee’s study of Health services provided to Canadian Forces personnel with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder, the Committee invite Cindy Smith-MacDonald and Ann LeClair to appear before the Standing Committee on National Defence at the regularly scheduled meeting to be held on February 28 2008.

 

On motion of Claude Bachand, it was agreed, — That the motion be amended by replacing the words “at the regularly scheduled meeting to be held on February 28, 2008” with the words “as soon as possible”.

 

The question was put on the motion, as amended, and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 4.

 

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

"That, as part of the Committee’s study of Health services provided to Canadian Forces personnel with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder, the Committee invite Ms. Cindy Smith-MacDonald and Ann LeClair to appear before the Standing Committee on National Defence as soon as possible".

 

On motion of Laurie Hawn, it was agreed, — That during two (2) in camera meetings the Committee hear testimony from individual soldiers and family members regarding its study of Health services provided to Canadian Forces personnel with an emphasis on post-traumatic stress disorder; and, that Committee members submit the names of a maximum of sixteen (16) individual soldiers and family members to the Clerk.

 

At 5:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:03 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That Committee members provide the names of individual soldiers and family members to the Clerk no later than March 14, 2008.

 

At 5:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
