The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in camera at 8:44 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Mauril Bélanger, Steven Blaney, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Raymonde Folco, Yvon Godin, Raymond Gravel, Luc Harvey, Pierre Lemieux, Richard Nadeau, Daniel Petit and Pablo Rodriguez.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: Daniel Gosselin, Major General, Canadian Defence Academy; Walter Semianiw, Major General, Chief Military Personnel. Department of Canadian Heritage: Judith A. LaRocque, Deputy Minister; Hubert Lussier, Director General, Official Languages Support Programs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 15, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the Court Challenges Program.
 

The Committee resumed consideration of the draft report.

 

At 9:08 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:10 a.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 15, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the situation of francophones at the Canadian Forces Base in Borden.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:58 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:02 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced its study of the Court Challenges Program and the State of Affairs from the Minister of Canadian Heritage.

At 11:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
