The Standing Committee on Official Languages met in a televised session at 9:07 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Steven Blaney, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Steven Blaney, Hon. Michael D. Chong, Hon. Denis Coderre, Jean-Claude D'Amours, Yvon Godin, Denis Lebel, Richard Nadeau, Daniel Petit and Pablo Rodriguez.

 

Acting Members present: Raynald Blais for Raymond Gravel, Ken Epp for Pierre Lemieux, David Tilson for Pierre Lemieux and Borys Wrzesnewskyj for Brent St. Denis.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Élise Hurtubise-Loranger, Analyst; Tanya Dupuis, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Fisheries and Oceans: George Da Pont, Commissioner, Canadian Coast Guard; Michelle d'Auray, Deputy Minister. Department of National Defence: Marc J. Dumais, Commander, Canada Command.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on April 17, 2008, the Committee commenced its study of bilingualism within the Coast Guard.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 9:38 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:42 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 9:49 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:52 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

At 10:50, by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit until 11:00 a.m.

 

At 10:59 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
