The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 214, Wellington Building, the Vice-Chair, Michael Savage, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gord Brown, Rodger Cuzner, Ruby Dhalla, Jacques Gourde, Mike Lake, Yves Lessard, Tony Martin, Michael Savage, Hon. Judy Sgro and Lynne Yelich.

 

Acting Members present: Réal Ménard for France Bonsant.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Chantal Collin, Analyst; Kevin Kerr, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Human Resources and Social Development Canada: Frank Fedyk, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy and Research; Doug Murphy, Assistant Director, Economic Security Policy; Shawn Tupper, Director General, Social Policy Development. Statistics Canada: Sylvie Michaud, Director, Income Statistics Division; Garnett Picot, Director General, Socio-Economic and Business Analysis Branch. National Council of Welfare: Sheila Regehr, Director; Diane Richard, Researcher and Policy Advisor.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, November 26, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of federal contribution to reducing poverty in Canada.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $24,100 for the study on the federal contribution to reducing poverty in Canada (April 1 to June 20, 2008), be adopted.

At 11:10 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
