The Standing Committee on Health met in camera at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patrick Brown, Patricia Davidson, Steven John Fletcher, Christiane Gagnon, Susan Kadis, Luc Malo, Joy Smith, Lui Temelkovski, Hon. Robert Thibault and David Tilson.

 

Acting Members present: Penny Priddy for Judy Wasylycia-Leis.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Odette Madore, Analyst; Nancy Miller Chenier, Analyst; Sonya Norris, Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, the Committee resumed its study on Prescription Drugs (Common Drug Review), as studied by the Committee in the previous session.
 

It was agreed, — That the evidence and documentation received by the Standing Committee on Health during the First Session of the 39th Parliament in relation to its study on Prescription Drugs (Common Drug Review) be taken into consideration by the Committee in this session.

 

It was agreed, — That the report entitled Prescription Drugs Part 1 - The Common Drug Review: An F/P/T Process, previously adopted by the Committee in the First Session of the 39th Parliament on June 13, 2007, be adopted by the Committee in the current session.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair, Clerk and analysts be authorized to make such grammatical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair present the report to the House, on Wednesday, December 5, 2007.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive response to the report.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee append to its report the supplementary opinion from Christiane Gagnon of the Bloc Québécois, as provided to the Clerk of the Committee in both official languages.

 

It was agreed, — That a news release be prepared by the analysts and the Clerk, in consultation with the Chair, for publication on the Committee's website and for distribution upon presentation of the report to the House.

 

It was agreed, — That the Clerk of the Committee make the necessary arrangements for a press conference to be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at 3:45 p.m., after tabling of the Committee’s report to the House.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a second meeting of the Committee be held on Thursday, December 6, 2007, on the government response to the Committee report entitled Healthy Weights for Healthy Kids; and that officials from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, the Department of Finance, Infrastructure Canada and the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission be invited to appear at the meeting.

 

At 9:42 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
