The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met in a televised session at 10:59 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Paul Szabo, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gérard Asselin, Dean Del Mastro, Sukh Dhaliwal, Russ Hiebert, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Carole Lavallée, Pat Martin, Paul Szabo, David Tilson, Dave Van Kesteren and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Mike Lake for Russ Hiebert, Thomas J. Mulcair for Pat Martin, Brian Murphy for Glen Douglas Pearson and Hon. Robert Thibault for Glen Douglas Pearson.

 

Associate Members present: Michel Guimond.

 

Other Members present: Bill Casey, Marcel Proulx, Hon. Andrew Telegdi, Lui Temelkovski and Hon. Garth Turner.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas, Analyst; Nancy Holmes, Analyst. House of Commons: Julia Lockhart, Committee Clerk; Gregory Tardi, Senior Parliamentary Counsel (Legal); Rob Walsh, Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel. As an individual: Richard Auger, Counsel to Karlheinz Schreiber.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 22, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of the Mulroney Airbus Settlement.
 

The witness made a statement.

 

Russ Hiebert moved, — That at the conclusion of this committee meeting, this committee reconvene at 7 p.m. and/or tomorrow after the Ontario Court of Appeal has heard Mr. Schreiber's application.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived.

 

The witness answered questions.

 

On motion of Robert Thibault, it was agreed, — That unanimous consent be given to allow for the distribution of a document that is not in both official languages.

 

On motion of Sukh Dhaliwal, it was agreed, — That the meeting continue to allow the last two speakers in the second round to be heard.

 

On motion of Pat Martin, it was agreed, — That this Committee report to the Speaker that Mr. Schreiber should be held in supervised house arrest for the period of time he is required to be available to appear as a witness before the Committee.

 

At 1:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
