The Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics met in camera at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Paul Szabo, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Del Mastro, Sukh Dhaliwal, Russ Hiebert, Hon. Charles Hubbard, Carole Lavallée, Pat Martin, Paul Szabo, David Tilson, Dave Van Kesteren and Mike Wallace.

 

Acting Members present: Richard Nadeau for Gérard Asselin, Mario Silva for Sukh Dhaliwal and Hon. Robert Thibault for Glen Douglas Pearson.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Erica Pereira, Committee Clerk. Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas, Analyst; Nancy Holmes, Analyst. House of Commons: Gregory Tardi, Parliamentary Counsel (Legal); Rob Walsh, Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the budget in the amount of $ 25 300, be approved for witness expenses and video-conferencing for the study of the Mulroney Airbus Settlement.

 

It was agreed, — That, as the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics has not completed the consideration of its report regarding the access to information request relating to the human rights of Afghan prisoners, entitled “Afghanistan-2006; Good Governance, Democratic Development and Human Rights”, it is proposed that we make it a priority to complete our work on this report once the study of the Mulroney-Schreiber affair has been completed or as soon as a meeting or part of a meeting is available.

 

It was agreed, — That the Chair be authorized to issue a summons, at his discretion, to any witness who refuses to comply with the Committee’s invitation to appear.

 

It was agreed, — That Karlheinz Schreiber appear at one further meeting, either January 31 or February 26, 2008.

 

It was agreed, — That Stevie Cameron and Jocelyne Bourgon be invited to appear before the Committee.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
