The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 12:59 p.m. this day, in the Petit Salon, Hilton Montreal Airport Hotel, Dorval, Québec, the Vice-Chair, Thierry St-Cyr, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Carrier, Olivia Chow, Norman Doyle, Nina Grewal, Ed Komarnicki, Thierry St-Cyr and Hon. Andrew Telegdi.

Acting Members present: Raymonde Folco for Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua and Luc Harvey for Dave Batters.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Elgersma, Analyst.

Witnesses: Amnesty International: Béatrice Vaugrante, Director, Canadian Francophone Section; Claudette Cardinal, Coordinator, Refugees, Canadian Francophone Section. As an individual: Alain Vallières, Lawyer. Ligue des droits et libertés: Nicole Filion, Coordinator; Louise Boivin, Coordinator, Committee on the Rights of Immigrants and Refugees. Association des aides familiales du Québec: Farida Osmani, Coordinator, Undocumented and Temporary Foreign Workers; Samia Ouar, Project Leader and Worker. Immigrant Workers Center: Valérie Lavigne, Community Organizer; Lisa Montgomery, Community Organizer. Solidarity Across Borders: Anna Purna Malla; Mostafa Henaway, Community Organizer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 22, 2007, the Committee resumed its study of undocumented and temporary foreign workers.

Béatrice Vaugrante, Alain Vallières and Nicole Fillion made statements and, with Louise Boivin and Claudette Cardinal, answered questions.

At 1:59 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:02 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Farida Osmani, Valérie Lavigne, Lisa Montgomery and Anna Purna Malla made statements and, with Samia Ouar and Mostafa Henaway, answered questions.

At 3:05 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
