The Standing Committee on International Trade met by videoconference at 3:36 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Lee Richardson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Guy André, Hon. Navdeep Bains, Ron Cannan, Serge Cardin, Sukh Dhaliwal, Peter Julian, Gerald Keddy, John Maloney, Larry Miller and Lee Richardson.

 

Acting Members present: Lui Temelkovski for Joyce Murray.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michael Holden, Analyst; Laura Barnett, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters: Jean-Michel Laurin, Vice-President, Global Business Policy. Petrobank Energy and Resources Ltd.: John D. Wright, President and Chief Executive Officer. Lawyers Without Borders: Pascal Paradis, Director General; Denis L'Anglais, Member of the Board of Directors, Colombia Group. Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers: Mark Rowlinson, Labour Lawyer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on April 2, 2008, the Committee resumed its Study of the ongoing free trade negotiations between Canada and Colombia, with a focus on how environmental impacts and human rights concerns are addressed in trade agreements.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:41 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
