The Special Committee on the Canadian Mission in Afghanistan met at 6:33 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Pierre Lemieux, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Vivian Barbot, Dawn Black, Sylvie Boucher, Laurie Hawn, Gerald Keddy, Pierre Lemieux, Dave MacKenzie, Deepak Obhrai, Bernard Patry and Hon. Bryon Wilfert.

 

Acting Members present: Michael Ignatieff for Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh and Glen Douglas Pearson for Hon. Bob Rae.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Robert Dufresne, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: Michel Gauthier, Commander , Canadian Expeditionary Forces Command.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of April 8, 2008, the Committee resumed its study of Canada's mission in Afghanistan.
 

LGen Michel Gauthier made a statement and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 7:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That the Special Committee receive testimony from two witnesses per meeting and that the meetings be divided into two one hour panels, unless the Special Committee decides otherwise.

 

It was agreed, — That, before the House adjourns for the summer, the Special Committee present a report to the House summarizing what it has done and heard since its inception.

 

It was agreed, — That on June 11, 2008 the Special Committee study a draft report.

 

At 8:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
