The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Rob Anders, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Ron Cannan, Roger Gaudet, Betty Hinton, Gilles-A. Perron, Todd Norman Russell, Bev Shipley, Brent St. Denis, Peter Stoffer, David Sweet and Roger Valley.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 1, 948, for the Committee’s travel to CFB Petawawa in April 2008 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 30, 736, for the Committee’s travel to CFB Valcartier in April 2008 be adopted and that the Chair present the said budget to the Budget Subcommittee of the Liaison Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the committee obtain and distribute to each member a copy of the book "On Killing" by LCol Dave Grossman.

 

It was agreed, — That the following witnesses:

The Royal Canadian Legion: Sgt Max Peddle, President of Branch 51;

Military Family and Resource Center (Halifax and Region): Colleen Calvert, Executive Director;

As an individual: LGen (retired) Michel Maisonneuve;

As an individual: Heather MacKinnon, Psychologist/therapist; and

Department of National Defence: BGen Hilary Jaeger and MGen Walter Semianiw

be invited to appear in relation to to appear in relation to the Veterans Health Care Review and Veterans Independence Program.

 

Peter Stoffer moved, — That the following witness:

Killology Research Group: LCol (retired) Dave Grossman, Director

be invited to appear in relation to the Veterans Health Care Review and Veterans Independence Program.

Debate arose thereon.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 4.

 

It was agreed, — That representatives of the Department of Veterans Affairs be invited to appear in relation to the Main Estimates.

 

At 5:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
