The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 3:58 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Barry Devolin, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Rod Bruinooge, Rob Clarke, Jean Crowder, Barry Devolin, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Tina Keeper, Marc Lemay, Yvon Lévesque, Hon. Anita Neville, Todd Norman Russell and Chris Warkentin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley, Analyst; Marlisa Tiedemann, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians.

 

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development : Tim Koepke, Chief Federal Negotiator; Anita Boscariol, Director General, Negotiations - West. Department of Finance: Neil Mitchell, Senior Tax Policy Officer, Aboriginal Tax Policy Section . Department of Justice: Bruce Hamilton, Senior Counsel, Federal Treaty Negotiation Office. Tsawwassen First Nation: Kim Baird, Chief; Laura Cassidy, Councillor.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Monday, May 26, 2008, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-34, An Act to give effect to the Tsawwassen First Nation Final Agreement and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with Tim Koepke and Anita Boscariol, answered questions.

 

At 4:37 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:43 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Chief Kim Baird made a statement and, with Laura Cassidy, answered questions.

 

On motion of Jean Crowder, it was agreed, — That the Committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-34, An Act to give effect to the Tsawwassen First Nation Final Agreement and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

 

By unanimous consent, Clauses 2 to 33 inclusive carried.

 

The Short Title carried.

 

The Preamble carried.

 

The Title carried.

 

The Bill carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill to the House.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
