The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Merv Tweed, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Don H. Bell, Steven Blaney, Robert Carrier, Ed Fast, Brian Jean, Peter Julian, Mario Laframboise, Hon. Andy Scott, Brian Storseth, Hon. Belinda Stronach and Merv Tweed.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Wayne Easter for Hon. Charles Hubbard and Christiane Gagnon for Robert Carrier.

 

Other Members present: David J. McGuinty.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.

 

Witnesses: Department of Transport: Louis Ranger, Deputy Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities; André Juneau, Deputy Head of Infrastructure and Communities; John Forster, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Safety and Security Group; Gerard A. McDonald, Director General, Marine Safety; Merlin Preuss, Director General, Civil Aviation; John Dobson, Senior Policy Coordinator, Grain Monitoring, Surface Transportation Policy. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced a Briefing on the Policy, the Management and the Operation of the Department of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and other related issues.
 

The Hon. Lawrence Cannon made an opening statement and, with Louis Ranger, John Forster, Gerard A. McDonald, Merlin Preuss and John Dobson answered questions.

 

At 12:39 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:45 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Moya Greene made an opening statement and answered questions.

 

At 1:33 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
