The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Shawn Murphy, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: David Christopherson, Brian Fitzpatrick, Mike Lake, Hon. Shawn Murphy, Richard Nadeau, Yasmin Ratansi, David Sweet, John Williams and Borys Wrzesnewskyj.

 

Acting Members present: Hon. Navdeep Bains for Marcel Proulx, Serge Ménard for Benoît Sauvageau, Lui Temelkovski for Marcel Proulx and Jeff Watson for Pierre Poilievre.

 

Other Members present: Marc Lemay.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Brian O'Neal, Analyst. Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts: Alex Smith.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Chair write to the Department of Public Works demanding that all documents that where requested by the members of the Committee at its meeting of June 8, be sent to the Clerk of the Committee forthwith.

 

At 12:46 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:46 p.m., the sitting resumed in public to study the letter received from the Comptroller General regarding a publication waiver.

 

On motion of John Williams, it was agreed, — That in relation to the letter dated June 9, 2006 from Charles-Antoine St-Jean, Comptroller General of Canada concerning waivers to the publication of details related to ex gratia payments in the 2006 Public Accounts for:

  • Merchant Navy Veterans since 1999-2000;
  • Heating fuel rebates since 2000-2001;
  • Claims arising from the Indian Schools System since 2001-2002; and
  • Royal Canadian Mounted Police(RCMP) disability benefit payments in 2005-2006;

an annual waiver be given to Treasury Board provided that the gross amount and the total number of claims are reported to Parliament.

 

At 12:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
