The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Diane Marleau, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Omar Alghabra, Daryl Kramp, Hon. Diane Marleau, James Moore, Richard Nadeau, Peggy Nash, Louise Thibault, Mike Wallace and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Marcel Proulx for Hon. Navdeep Bains.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Guy Beaumier, Analyst; Philippe Le Goff, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Furniture Task Group: Robert Axam, Government Programs Manager, Haworth Limited. Micom Laboratories Inc.: Michel Comtois, President . Information Technology Association of Canada: Bernard A. Courtois, President and Chief Executive Officer. The AIM Group Inc.: Meredith Egan, Secretary-Treasurer and Co-owner. FREDAL Solutions: Alain Fredette, President. SPI Consultants : Jeremy Ingle, Chief Executive and Co-owner. Canadian Furniture Task Group: David Swire, Director of Sales, National Capital Region, Teknion Furniture Systems.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)c), the Committee commenced its study of the new procurement strategy of the Department of Public Works and Government Services .
 

Bernard Courtois, Michel Comtois, Alain Fredette, Meredith Egan, Jeremy Ingle and David Swire made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the Second Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates has the honour to present its SECOND REPORT

Your Subcommittee met on Tuesday, October 17, 2006, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That Senior Officials from the Treasury Board Secretariat, the Department of Public Works and Government Services and the Department of Human Resources, Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities be invited to appear before the Committee on October 24, 2006, in relation to its study on of budget cuts announced by the Treasury Board on September 25, 2006;

2. That the President of the Public Service Commission appear before the Committee in the month of December 2006; and

3. That the planning calendar remain the same except for minor changes concerning the dates.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 4.
