The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met in camera at 9:04 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Diane Marleau, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Omar Alghabra, Daryl Kramp, Hon. Diane Marleau, Peggy Nash, Caroline St-Hilaire, Louise Thibault, Mike Wallace and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Wajid Khan for Hon. Joseph Volpe and Paul Szabo for Raymond Bonin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Guy Beaumier, Analyst; Philippe Le Goff, Analyst.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the First Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure which read as follows:

Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure of the Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates has the honour to present its FIRST REPORT

Your Subcommittee met on Monday, May 8, 2006, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That the Committee hold a briefing session with Treasury Board officials on the Estimates documents;

2. That the Auditor General of Canada be invited to appear before the Committee following the tabling of her Status Report on May 16, 2006; 2.

3. That Canada Post be invited to appear to discuss its future

4. That the Public Service Commission, Public Service Alliance Commission and the Professsional Institute of the Public Service Commission's be invited to appear before the Committee to discuss the Public Service of Canada's new mandate;

5. That the Committee examine the use of Governor General Special Warrants;

6. That the Committee invite officials of the Department of Public Works and Government Services to discuss procurement process, industrial parks and regional offices

7. That the Committee examine the relocation of federal public servants to the regions;

8. That the Committee examine policies of Crown Corporations regarding reimbursement of expenses;

9. That the Committee examine certain issues regarding aboriginal affairs;

10. That the Committee invite Senator Paul Massicotte to appear before the Committee;

11. That the Committee examine expenses regarding public opinion polling;

12. That the Committee examine the Main Estimates of the main departments, agencies and Crown Corporations within the Committee's mandate including the Governor General of Canada;
