The Standing Committee on National Defence met at 3:53 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, Rick Casson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Dawn Black, Robert Bouchard, Blaine Calkins, Rick Casson, Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh, Cheryl Gallant, Laurie Hawn, Russ Hiebert and Hon. Joe McGuire.

 

Acting Members present: Rodger Cuzner for John Cannis and Paul Steckle for Wajid Khan.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner, Analyst; James Cox, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of National Defence: MGen Stuart Beare, Commander, Land Force Doctrine and Training System.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on May 16, 2006, the Committee resumed its study of Canadian Forces in Afghanistan.
 

The witness made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 5:18 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:21 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Dawn Black, it was agreed, — That the Committee apologize to Gerry Barr, President - Chief Executive Officer, and Erin Simpson, Policy Officer, of the Canadian Council for International Cooperation, Kevin McCort, Senior Vice-President of CARE Canada and Steven Staples, Director, Security Programs of the Polaris Institute, for the behaviour of Conservative members of the Committee on June 8, 2006.

 

By unanimous consent, it was agreed, — That the draft of the letter from the Chair to the witnesses of June 8 be amended by adding an offer of an opportunity to finish their testimony and that it be sent to them.

 

At 5:42 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
